The book, Hammer Of God - The Yom Kippur War: October, 1974, represents an in-depth look at the background and subsequent events during the war that lasted from October 6 to October 26, 1973.  As the author points out, the Yom Kippur War was a confrontation between Israel and a coalition of Arab states including Egypt and Syria.  In this fourth Arab-Israeli war, Egypt and Syria struck first during the holiest day in Judaism and made early gains in the Sinai and Golan Heights respectively.  Unlike the Six Day War in 1967 where Israel struck first, Egypt and Syria initially had the momentum.  Once across the Suez Canal, however, the Egyptians dug-in while the Syrian advance in the Golan Heights was within days brought to a halt.  The war then turned into a series of holding actions for Israel.  During these hostilities, Israel was supplied by the United States while the U.S.S.R. made good on supplying Egypt and Syria.  While the superpowers were in danger of being pulled into the fray, they managed to stay at "arms-length" during the supply efforts.  The Israelis soon went on the offensive through a series of strong counter attacks that resulted in pushing the Egyptians back across the Suez Canal and the Syrians out of the Golan Heights.    When a ceasefire was finally cooperatively put into effect on October 25th to end the war, the Israelis were only 63 miles from Cairo, Egypt and 25 miles from Damascus, Syria.  This war ended with the defeat of the Egyptian and Syrian Armies and the loss of additional territory to Israel.  The major sections of "Hammer Of God - The Yom Kippur War: October, 1973" is as follows: 1) Background To War; 2) Opening Moves; 3) Missiles Go To War; 4) War In The Air; 5) Desert Warriors At Sea; 6) The Holding Actions; 7) Counterattack; 8) Flanking Attack; 9) Breakthrough and Envelopment and 10) Final Positions And The Future.  In addition to an informative narrative, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 52 black and white photographs; 2) About 20 black and white photographs and 3) Approximately 13 maps.  This book is 68 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is Frank Aker III.  Edition published in 1977.
