The P-6 E Hawk represented the culmination of a series of high performance, single engine bi-plane fighters that boasted the heritage of the famous Schneider Trophy Cup Winning Curtiss built racing planes. Many features of these Curtiss aircraft including a compact water-cooled V-12 engine and aerodynamic streamlining were built into this line of fighter aircraft. The P-6 E Hawk was flown by the United States Army Air Corps until replaced by all metal skinned monoplane fighters such as the P-36 Hawk towards the latter half of the 1930s. The P-6 E Hawk was armed with two .30 caliber machine guns mounted on either side of the fuselage and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of almost 200 m.p.h.; 2) Maximum range of just over 500 miles when using a specially designed belly tank and 3) Service ceiling of just under 25,000 feet. This older, out-of-production Hawk P-6 E model is part of Monogram's 1973 "Blue Box" series of airplane models, is molded in an orange-yellow colored plastic, and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a P-6 E Hawk flown by the 17th Pursuit Squadron known as the "Snow Owls" who were stationed during the early 1930s at Selfridge Field, Michigan; 2) Clear plastic wind screen; 3) Seated pilot figure; 4) Simulated fabric covering; 5) Uniquely molded landing gear and fuselage wing bracing; 6) Painting guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions. Note: the price reflects the fact that this model does not include the original one piece display stand molded in orange-yellow colored plastic. The box is in good condition. Never started and 100% complete except as otherwise noted with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
