The book, Helicopters At War, picks-up the story of helicopter development in the early 1960s as the first turboshaft powered helicopters were entering military service.  This new powerplant promised a revolution in speed and payload.  With this technological leap in powerplants, the helicopter industry which had perfected stable and reliable piston-engined machines could now promise aircraft which could add a whole new dimension to modern warfare.  The proving ground for the use of modern helicopters in combat was the Vietnam War and from the first improvised armed aircraft escorting the assault transports emerged the dedicated, purpose built gunship which is now an independent weapons system in its own right.  Also, explored is the use of large, heavy lift and commercial helicopters.  The sections of this book are as follows: 1) The Turboshaft Revolution: Smaller Engines, Bigger Payloads; 2) Big Lifters: Giant Helicopters; 3) The Huey Story: Bell UH-1 Developments; 4) America's Front Line: Other U.S. Helicopters; 5) Helicopter Armament: Birth of the Gunship; 6) The Aerial Battlefield: Helicopters in Land Warfare: 7) Submarine Hunters: Helicopters in Sea Warfare: 8) Europe Keeps Pace: European Helicopters; 9) Civil Helicopters: The "Biz-Copters" and 10) The Future: Blueprints for Peace and War.  In addition to the text, this book includes the following: 1) 29 vintage black and white photographs; 2) 15 color photographs; 3) 35 color aircraft illustrations; 4) 5 other color illustrations and 5) 26 black and white line drawings.  This book is 64 pages and is in excellent condition.  The authors are Bill Gunston and John Batchelor.  Edition published in 1977.
