The British Hunter first flew on July 20th, 1951 and was developed as the replacement for the "Meteor" jet fighter. The Hunter established a world speed record of 727.6 m.p.h. in 1953 and went on to provide the backbone of the R.A.F. fighter strength between 1955 and 1964. After 1964, Hunter's continued to be used as fighter bombers well into the 1970s. In addition to the R.A.F., various marks of Hunters have been exported to many other countries including Denmark, India, Iraq, Sweeden and Switzerland. The Hunter is powered by a 10,000 lb. thrust Rolls Royce Avon 207 jet engine and can fly at 710 m.p.h. at sea level. The Hunter is armed with four 30 mm cannon and can carry a variety of bombs and missiles in fixed hard-points under the wings. This older, out-of-production Hunter T.Mk. 7 / Mk.
