The book, Hurricane At War traces the design, development and deployment of one of the most important Allied fighters during World War II.  The story of the British built Hawker Hurricane begins with the flight of the first prototype and pre-1939 service in France to the Battle for France and the subsequent Battle of Britain.  With the German attack of the Soviet Union in June 1941, this unsung hero of the Battle of Britain, went on to see service in the frozen wastes of North Russia, over beleaguered Malta in 1942 and across the skies of Sicily & Greece in 1943, as well as, eventually in the Allied advance to take back Burma from the occupying Japanese Army.  "Hurricane At War" also includes pilot first-hand accounts of low-level bombing sorties covering the disastrous Dieppe invasion in 1942 along with a personal story of the only fighter pilot in World War II to be awarded the Victoria Cross.  While the eight-gun Hawker Hurricane earned its stripes during the Battle of Britain, it continued to be an important weapon used in every combat theater during the remainder of World War II and was used in a number of different capacities.  In addition to an effective day fighter, the Hawker Hurricane went on to perform the role of fighter-bomber, night fighter, ship borne scout and tank buster.  The major sections of "Hurricane At War" are as follows: 1) Foreword by Group Captain T.P. Gleave, CBE; 2) Introduction; 3) First Of The Many; 4) Into Service; 5) Blitzkrieg; 6) Battle Of Britain; 7) Russian Episode; 8) Armament; 9) Hurri-bombers; 10) They Also Served; 11) Operation Jubilee; 12) Malta Defender; 13) Tank-Busters; 14) Alamein By Night; 15) Night Fighters; 16) Jungle Fighters; 17) Men And Markings; 18) In Many Forms and 19) Requiem.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Hurricane At War" includes approximately 208 vintage black and white photographs.  This book is 160 pages and is in good condition.  The author is Chaz Bowyer.  Edition published in 1976.
