While it has been widely assumed that the Japanese armed forces produced no  color films before the arrival of the conquering U.S. armed forces in 1945, recent scholarly work has uncovered rare color footage dating back to 1931.  This very revealing documentary offers the viewer a rare glimpse into the culture and customs of the Japanese from their perspective.  This documentary features footage from   Manchuria in the early 1930s, domestic Japanese scenes in the years prior to World World War II and films of the extremely brutal occupation of Shanghai in 1941 which became a particularly ugly symbol of what the Japanese had in mind for all nations conquered by their war machine.  Special features included in this documentary include exerpts from the diary of a Japanese foot soldier along with color shots of  the devastation in Hiroshima and Nagasaki which occurred as a result of the  American's use of the first two operational atomic bombs.  Fullscreen in color. Runtime 151 minutes.
