The Ki-45 was a long range, twin engine heavy fighter built by Kawasaki for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force during World War II. While the initial prototype was considered underpowered and thus lacked in performance, Kawasaki was given another chance to correct this along with other shortcomings. Kawasaki head designer Takeo Doi made a number of significant modifications including lengthening the wings, tapering the wing ends, redesigning the fuselage surfaces and more tightly cowling the radial engines. This refined Ki-45 was tested a second time and the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force liked what they saw and subsequently accepted the Ki-43 Kai or Dragon Killer for series production. The Ki-45 (Allied code name "Nick") was then put into production and deployed to the front lines. A total of 1,690 Ki-45's across four variants were manufactured and these enjoyed modest success in duties including ground attack and anti-shipping missions. The Ki-45 had a top speed of 336 m.p.h. and carried one 7.7 mm coaxial machine gun along with one 20 mm cannon in the nose and one 37 cannon in the ventral tunnel. This older Kawasaki Kai Otsu TORYU (NICK) '4th Flight Regiment' scaled model is molded in gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Ki-45 as flown by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force, 4th Flight Regiment in World War II; 2) Clear plastic multi-piece canopy; 3) Detailed cockpit interior; 4) Detailed radial engine faces; 5) Rearward facing coaxial 7.7 mm machine gun; 6) Recessed panel lines; 7) Spinning propellers; 8) Painting guide and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in very good condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
