The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien (Allied code name Tony) was a single seat, single engine Japanese World War II fighter aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force between 1943 and 1945. The Ki-61 was also the only mass-produced World War II era Japanese fighter to utilize a liquid-cooled inline engine. By the time production had ceased in 1945, approximately 3,200 Ki-61s of all variants had been produced. The operational characteristics of the Ki-61 are as follows: 1) Top speed of about 360 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of just over 350 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 38,000 feet. The Ki-61's armament consisted of two 20 mm cannon and two 12.7 mm machine guns. It could also carry two 550 l.b. bombs on short range missions. This older, out-of-production Tony Kawasaki Ki-61 1Kai Hien "Tony" model from the early 1970s is molded in silver -gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for Five different aircraft flown by the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force during World War II; 2) Clear multi-piece, multi-position canopy; 3) Detailed cockpit; 4) Detailed engine; 5) Detailed optional position landing gear; 6) Recessed panel lines; 7) Removable engine cowling; 8) Rotating propeller and wheels; 9) Two externally mounted fuel tanks; 10) Paint guide with beautiful Hien artwork and 11) Illustrated assembly instructions. This model package also includes a seperate Micro Scale Decal sheet containing markings for the 39 FTC. 244 and 26th Sentai 37 FG, 59 Air Combat Regiment Akeno fighter school. The box is in excellent condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
