The book, Koga's Zero: The Fighter that Changed World War II, tells the fascinating story of the Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero along with the incredible circumstances under which one of these Japanese fighters was shot down and eventually recovered for evaluation by the United States Army Air Corps in 1942.  "Koga's Zero" was flown by Petty Officer Tadayoshi Koga on a mission launched from the Imperial Japanese Aircraft Carrier Ryujo to attack Dutch Harbor in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska in early June of 1942.  After carrying out his mission, as part of a flight of other A6M5 Zero's, Koga's aircraft was shot down and later recovered.  This startling event was a stroke of good luck for the beleaguered armed forces of the United States as it allowed the Army Air Corp to ultimately discover both the strengths and weaknesses of their primary adversary in the air wars that took place throughout the Pacific combat theater.  The knowledge gained from the evaluation of this enemy aircraft gave the United States the information it needed to end the dominance of the Zero in the Pacific combat theater.  The major sections of this book include the following: 1) An Aerodynamic Impossibility; 2) Designing the Zero; 3) The Long Lived Zero; 4) The Zero at Pearl Harbor; 5) The First Raid on Dutch Harbor; 6) The Zero at Midway; 7) Comedy of Errors: Finding the Japanese Fleet; 8) Loss of Koga's Zero; 9) Discovery and Retrieval of Koga's Zero; 10) Koga's Zero Flies Again; 11) The Significance of Koga's Zero; 12) Epilogue; 13) Appendix I: Koga's Zero vs. U.S. Fighter Planes; 14) Appendix II: Extent of Damage to the Downed Zero; 15) References and 16) Index.  This book is the product of detailed research including interviews with veterans on both sides of the conflict during World War II.  In addition to an informative text, the book, "Koga's Zero" includes approximately 65 black and white vintage photographs.  This book is in excellent condition.  The author is Jim Rearden.  Edition published in 1995.
