The 1930s was the golden age of Air Racing, when air races were more popular and drew larger crowds than America's favorite passtime, baseball. Against this backdrop, E.M. Laird who was an experienced airplane designer, drew up plans and built the Laird Solution bi-plane, single engined aircraft for the expressed purpose of competing in air races. The Laird Solution was entered into and won the 1930 Thomson Trophy Race. In 1931, Jimmy Doolittle piloted a modified Laird Solution, the so-called Super Solution and ended up winning the Bendix Air Race handily with an elapsed time of 9 hours, 16 minutes and 10 seconds. This kit is an authentic reproduction of the earlier Laird Solution biplane race. This early 1960s kit includes 30 beautifully molded parts and a pylon display stand. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
