The film, Lindbergh's Great Race: "Are There Any Mechanics Here?" tells the fascinating story of how an unknown American air mail pilot named Charles Lindbergh, overcame all obstacles to win the air race challenge of flying nonstop from New York to Paris in 1927 and in so doing winning the coveted $25,000 Orteig Prize.  Prior to Lindbergh's flight to Paris in 1927, six men had died in the attempt.  Given the state of aircraft technology in the late 1920s, many people considered it suicide to attempt this flight especially in an aircraft with only one pilot and a single engine.  As a late entry in the race, Lindbergh faced well-capitalized and determined competitors who were well advanced in their plans for this transatlantic flight.  Alone and against all odds, Lindbergh successfully flew his Ryan built aircraft, "Spirit Of St. Louis" over almost 2,000 miles of ocean to reach his destination.  After a total journey of 3,600 miles, Lindberg's landing in Paris brought him fame and ushered in the modern age of commercial aviation.  Even to this day, Charles Lindbergh's extraordinary courage and skill in making this flight on his first attempt ranks among the greatest achievements of the 20th century.  Narrated by Cameron Richardson.  Full screen in black and white.  Released in 1995.  Runtime 90 minutes.
