The twin-engine P-38 J Lightning was built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and featured an unusual center fuselage and twin booms connected between the two tail rudders.  Its power, effective combat radius and firepower caused both the Germans and Japanese substantial losses during World War II.  While the P-38 Lightning was designed as a fighter, bomber, pathfinder and reconnaissance variants were produced as well.  The Lockheed P-38 J had a top speed of about 414 mph and a range of about 2,268 miles with external drop tanks.  The Lightning was armed with two 20 mm cannon and two .50 caliber machine guns.  It could also be armed with a wide assortment of bombs attached to under wing pylons.  This Lockheed P-38 J Lightning (WWII 50th Anniversary Edition) scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for P-38 J “Richie Boy” as flown by the United States Army Air Corps during World War II; 2) Choice of three blade propellers & spinner for stationary version or just the spinner for the flying version; 3) Clear plastic one piece canopy; 4) Molded in medium gray colored plastic; 5) Recessed panel lines; 6) Two fuel drop tanks; 7) Painting guide and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in like-new condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
