The Lockheed S-3 Viking is a subsonic twin jet, carrier based all-weather, multi-mission extended range aircraft that carries an automated weapons systems.  It was originally introduced into the United States Navy to identify, track and destroy enemy submarines.  The S-3's mission changed in the form of the B variant in the late 1990s towards one of electronic warfare and surface surveillance for carrier battle groups.  Approximately 190 S-3s of all variants were produced including one aircraft designated US-3A which was converted for utility and limited cargo duty.  The S-3 normally carried one Pilot, two Naval Flight Officers and one Sensor Operator/TFO.  The general operational characteristics of the S-3 are as follows: 1) Top speed of almost 500 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of approximately 3,200 miles and 3)  Service ceiling of about 41,000 feet.  The S-3 has four internal and two extrnal hardpoints that can carry almost 5000 pounds of ordinance.  This Lockheed S-3 A Viking (Wings Aviation Collection) kit is a large and well detailed model of one of America's finest carrier based anti-shipping patrol aircraft.  This older, out-of-production 100 piece kit includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a S-3 A flown by VS-41 Shamrock Squadron; 2) Clear plastic canopy; 3) 2-AGM- 84 Harpoon Missiles; 4) MAD boom (Magnetic anomaly detector); 5) Recessed panel lines; 6) Painting guide and 7) Illustraed assembly instructions.  The box is in mint condition but does have cellophane  wrap that has slightly pulled in the sides.  Never started and factory sealed.
