The concept of deploying a enemy radar suppression aircraft as part of a arial strike team had its birth in the battles fought over North Vietnam during the Vietnam war.  The American airforces were incurring tremendous losses while penetrating North Vietnamese air space.  The solution was the modification of existing aircraft starting with the F-100 Super Sabre and then settling on the F-105 F/G "Thud" as enemy radar suppression aircraft.  Their sole roll was to identify the radar sights controlling the Soviet SAM batteries and once found destroy them before they could shoot down any American aircraft involved in bombing missions.  This concept evolved further after the Vietnam War and by the time of Operation Desert Storm in 1991 F-4E Phantom airframes had been modified into the F-4G Wild Weasel which is the subject of this model kit.  The F-4G Wild Weasel crew could suppress the enemy radar defences with AGM-45 Shrike and AGM-78 STARM anti-radiation missles but could also use conventional unguided bombs and other munitions.  Included in this kit are authentic decals for two different aircraft: 1) 561st, TFS, 35th TFW George AFP and 2) 23rd TFS, 52nd TFW Spangdahem, Germany.  The later set of decals includes Desert Storm mission markings, as well.  The box is in investment grade condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions.
