Designed by Professor Willy Messerschmitt, the Bf 109 E has the distinction of enabling the German Luftwaffe to gain the essential advantage of air superiority in support of the European land campaigns from late 1939 through 1940. When war was declared in September, 1939, the Luftwaffe was in the process of replacing the earlier C and D models used during the Spanish Civil War with the more powerful and heavily armed E variant. By the Summer of 1940, the Luftwaffe had approximately 500 E variants in front line service on airfields arrayed along the French coastline. The subsequent battle that took place over the English Channel and Southern England was later to be referred to as the Battle of Britain. The E model went on to be replaced by the F variant in late 1941 and ultimately was followed by the G and K variants and numerous subvariants. By the end of World War II in May, 1945, over 30,000 Bf 109s of all variants had been produced. This older, out of production Messerschmitt Bf 109 E kit includes the following features: 1) Fully detailed Daimler Benz engine; 2) Working Ailerons and tail planes; 3) Retractable undercarriage; 4) Alternative cockpit canopies; 5) Detailed cockpit 6) Authentic Luftwaffe markings; 7) Color painting guide and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in good condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
