The Messerschmitt Me 109 K "Kurfurst" series of this famed German World War II, single engined fighter began operational service in October, 1944. The K-4 was the only K series variant to see action in numbers with about 1,700 being delivered by German factories before the end of hostilities on May 8, 1945. The K-4 was powered by a DB605 engine with a two stage supercharger and carried one 30 mm MK 108 engine mounted cannon and two 13 mm MG 131 machine guns in the nose. Additional equipment that could be carried included a drop tank, bombs, two underwing 20 mm cannon in gondola pods or 210 mm Wfr. Gr. 21 rockets. The Me 109 K-4 was the fastest variant of this famed figher used during the World War II. It had a rate-of-climb of over 5,500 feet per minute and could reach speeds of 445 m.p.h..
