The MiL. Mi-24 (N.A.T.O. code name Hind) is a twin turbine engined attack helicopter developed for use by the former Soviet Union for use initially by the Soviet Air Force. It was introduced in the early 1970s and to date approximately 2,000 units of all variants have been produced with many being exported to countries allied with the former Soviet Union and later Russia. The Hind D, which is the variant reproduced with this model, is one of the export versions available to foreign air forces. The MiL. 24 Hind D can carry up to three crew members and has the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of just over 200 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of just under 300 miles and 3) Service ceiling of almost 15,000 feet. The MiL. 24 Hind D carries one 12.7 mm and two 7.62 mm caliber machine guns or a 30 mm cannon instead of the 7.62 mm machine guns. A variety of rockets and missilies can also be carried as part of the Hind's offensive payload. This older Mil. 24 Hind D model is 5 1/4 inches long when assembled and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a MiL. 24 Hind D flown by the former Soviet Air Force; 2) Clear plastic cockpit glass; 3) Molded in beige plastic; 4) Rocket pods and anti-tank missiles; 5) Rotating five blade motor; 6) Painting guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.
