The “Western” world was shocked by the sudden appearance of the technologically advanced Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 over the Korean skies early on during the Korean War.  Its existence had not been suspected and as the story of its development unfolded and odd irony became apparent.  The irony was that the development of the jet engine for the MiG-15 fighter was greatly aided and influenced by the British decision to allow representatives of the Soviet Union to examine their highly advanced Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet power plant.  The Russians simply adapted the design for their own use and solved the problem of finding a suitable power plant for the new fighter.  The MiG-15 became famous as the primary adversary of the U.S. Air Force’s North American F-86 Sabre in the latter stages of the Korean War.  It was heavily armed and in the hands of an experienced Russian pilot could be a worthy opponent.  The MiG-15’s operating characteristics are as follows: 1) Top speed of just under 670 mph; 2) Effective range with drop tanks of up to 1,225 miles and 3) Ceiling of just under 51,000 feet.  The MiG-15 was armed with two 23 mm cannon, one 37 mm cannon and could carry up to 220 pounds of bombs.  Over 15,000 of these swept-wing jets were built in the U.S.S.R., Poland and Czechoslovakia, serving in the air forces of the Soviet Union, PLA Air Force and Korean People’s Air Force, as well as, with that of many other allied countries.  This older Mikoyan MiG-15 scaled model is from quality Airfix molds and is from MPC’s “Air Combat Collection”.  It includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Mikoyan MiG-15 as flown by pilots of the PLA Air Force during the Korean War; 2) Basic cockpit; 3) Clear one piece plastic canopy; 4) Detailed landing gear; 5) Ground crewmen figures; 6) Pilot figure 7) Recessed panel lines; 8) Painting guide and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in Like-New condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
