The highly respected and referenced Monogram Close-Up series concentrates on German and Japanese aircraft of World War II.  Each title includes a well-researched development and operational history along with a technical description.  All variants are thoroughly reviewed and are well illustrated along with a general view, close-up black and white photographs and line drawings.  Later volumes also have a center spread of color photos.  The book, Monogram Close-Up 1: Junkers 287 represents a pictorial study of the Junkers Ju 287, which was a late World War II era German Luftwaffe flying test bed aircraft built to validate the required technology for a multi-jet heavy bomber.  While a first flight occurred in August 1944, Germany surrendered before an initial series of refined prototype aircraft could be manufactured.  Soviet Union military forces captured the flying prototype and an unfinished improved second aircraft after they overran the Junkers factory in the spring of 1945.  Many of the Junkers 287 design team was brought to the Soviet Union where they subsequently constructed several additional prototypes before the project was abandoned.  The Junkers 287 carried a crew of two and had the following operational characteristics; 1) Top speed of almost 330 mph; 2) Range of just under 1,000 miles and 3) Service ceiling of 30,000 feet.  The major sections of "Monogram Close-Up 1: Junkers 287" are as follows: 1) Why The Forward Sweep?; 2) Further Prototypes Planned and 3) Soviet Development.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Monogram Close-Up 1: Junkers 287" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 98 black and white photographs; 2) 3 black and white illustrations; 3) 1 three-view Ju 287 V1 black and white illustration; 4) 1 two page color Junkers Ju 287 A-1 illustration; 5) 1 three-view Ju 287 V2 black and white illustration; 6) 1 three-view Ju 287 V3 (A-0/A-1) black and white illustration; 7) 1 Ju 287 V4 (A-2) black and white side aircraft profile illustration; 8) 1 Ju 287 V5 (B-1) black and white side aircraft profile illustration; 9) 1 Ju 287 V6 (B-2) black and white side aircraft profile illustrations; 10) 1 Ju EF 125 black and white aircraft profile illustration; 11) 1 Ju EF 131 black and white side aircraft profile illustration; 12) 1 Ju EF 132 black and white side aircraft profile illustration; 13) 1 three-view Type 150 black and white illustration and 14) 1 three-view Heinkel He 343 A-1 black and white illustration.  This book is 32 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Thomas H. Hitchcock.  Edition published in 1974.
