The famous P-51 Mustang is a single engine, single seat American fighter aircraft that was miraculously developed in 117 days after an agreement was concluded in April 1940 between the British Purchasing Commission and North American Aviation, Incorporated.  While it was first exported to Britain, once America entered World War II, the United States Army Air Corps also flew the early Mustang A, B and C models.  The definitive D variant included lowering the upper part of the rear fuselage in order to give the pilot a better field of view.  This variant also included a bubble canopy and a dorsal fin in front of the tail.  The P-51 D was powered by a 1,450 hp Packard-Merlin engine that gave it a top speed of 437 miles per hour. The P-51 D Mustang was armed with six .50 caliber machine guns and could carry a variety of ordnance on external hard-points under its wings.  The durability and versatility of the venerable P-51 D Mustang allowed it to fly valuable ground support missions during the Korean conflict this despite the fact that jet aircraft had replaced it in the role of an air superiority fighter.  This P-51 D U.S. Army Fighter scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a P-51 D Mustang as operated by the United States Army Air Force during World War II; 2) Clear one piece plastic canopy; 3) Display stand molded in black colored plastic; 4) Model molded in light gray colored plastic; 5) Recessed panel lines and 6) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
