The Nakajima C6N1 Saiun (Allied code name Myrt) was intended to be a carrier based reconnaissance aircraft used by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. While it was the fastest carrier based aircraft put in service by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II, it was in fact more often flown from land bases as most of the Japanese carriers by this point in the war had been sunk. The C6N1 was introduced in 1944 and by the time production ceased in 1945 approximately 460 of all variants had been manufactured. The C6N1 variant which is the subject of this older kit carried a crew of two and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of almost 380 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of approximately 3,300 miles and 3) Service ceiling of just over 35,000 feet. The C6N1 was armed with only one 7.92 rearward mounted, flexible machine gun. This C6N1 Saiun model is molded in dark green plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for an aircraft operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II; 2) Clear plastic canopy; 3) Recessed panel lines; 4) Paint guide and 5) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in like new condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
