The movie, On Golden Pond, is the story of Norman and Ethel Thayer's attempt, in the twilight of their lives, to deal with conflict and resolution. When their daughter Chelsea arrives for a Summer vacation at their cottage, the family is forced to renew bonds of love and to overcome the generational friction that has existed for years. As part of this process, Norman must also somehow find a way thorugh his bitterness and fear of growing old, while Chelsea struggles to rebuild their relationship. Through all this, Ethel's consistent, low key support for Norman who is her "knight in shining armor" is inspirational in its simplicity. In the end, this movie is about family relationships and the fear many face as they grow older. As such, this is a movie to ponder and to always treasure. This movie was the winner of two Academy Awards in 1981 one for Best Actress and the other for Best Actor. Starring Henry Fonda, Katherine Hepburn and Jane Fonda among others. Widescreen in color. Released in 1981. Runtime 105 minutes.
