 The book, Operation Desert Shield - The First 90 Days, chronicles the United States deployment to the Persian Gulf from August to October 1990.  This deployment occurred as a result of Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait in early August 1990 and the perceived threat to a major part of the world's oil reserves in the other Gulf States.  It was the largest, most rapid and most distant projection of American military forces since World War II.  In less than six weeks 120,000 soldiers had been airlifted to Saudi Arabia, covered by hundreds of aircraft and a massive naval force.  By late October, the number of soldiers had risen to 200,000 with much more heavy equipment, backed by squadrons and regiments form Great Britain and many other allied nations along with additional aircraft and worships.  This pictorial study of Operation Desert Shield includes the following sections: 1) To The Land Of the Black Gold; 2) The 'Instant Army'; 3) Equal Opportunities; 4) Just Another Day...
