The book, Over the Hump airlift to China, tells the fascinating true story of how the Allies working from bases in India created an "air-bridge" to China supplying the forces fighting the Japanese in World War II. With much of China's coasts lost to the Japanese in the 1930s, the Chinese and supporting American forces fighting the Japanese in early World War II relied on the China-Burma road to move vaste quantities of supplies to forces fighting in China. Once the Japanese captured all of Burma, this road was cut off and the Allies in China in turn had all of their supplies including ammunition, guns, food and fuel cut-off as well. The American's operating out of China decided that the only way to move the musch needed supplies into China was by establishing an "air-bridge' which is exactly what they did. With this success came much needed knowledge in moving large quantities of supplies by air which was used to good effect later during the Berlin airlift in 1948 and later in Korea. The techniques of large scale emergency air movements were to pay hugh dividends long after the struggle with Japan ended in September, 1945. The book Over the Hump airlift to China, tells the story of this remarkable event as told through the following Chapters: 1) Introduction by S.L. Mayer; 2) China is isolated; 3) The Hump begins; 4) Failure; 5) New commitments; 6) Expansion; 7) Big Business; 8) Bibliography. Included in this book are the following: 1) Approximately 133 black and white photographs; 2) 6 illustrations and 3) 2 Map. This book is 160 pages and is in very good condition. The author is William Koenig. Edition published in 1972.
