The twin-engine P-38 J Lightning was built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation and featured an unusual center fuselage and twin booms connected between the two tail rudders.  Its power, effective combat radius and firepower caused both the Germans and Japanese substantial losses during World War II.  While the P-38 Lightning was designed as a fighter, bomber, pathfinder and reconnaissance variants were produced as well.  The P-38 J, which is the subject of this P-38 J Droop-Snoot scale model produced in Brazil, was introduced in August 1943.  One of the roles the standard P-38 J was modified to take on was that of "pathfinder".  A number of field modified P-38 J's received a "droop snoot" clear glazed nose with a Norden bombsight.  These "pathfinder" P-38 Js would lead a formation of other P-38s, each overloaded with two 2,000 pound bombs.  Once the target was reached, the "droop snoot" P-38 J would signal the other aircraft to drop their bombs in unison.  This older P-38 J Droop-Snoot scale model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a P-38 J flown by the United States Army Air Force during World War II; 2) Clear multi-piece canopy that opens; 3) Clear plastic nose with Nordon bombsight; 4) Detail cockpit; 5) Detail engines with removable cowling panels; 6) Detail landing gear and wheel wells; 7) Molded in medium green colored plastic; 8) Optional position landing gear; 9) Recessed panel lines; 10) Two bombs; 11) Painting guide written in Portuguese and 12) Illustrated assembly instructions written in Portuguese.  Note: several markings on the decal sheet have been damaged and will have to be replaced.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
