The book, PBY Catalina Walk Around (# 5) represents an inside and out pictorial study of the twin engine PBY Catalina floatplane manufactured by Consolidated Aircraft from 1936 through 1945.  In order to provide maximum information in a limited number of pages, this Walk Around issue focuses on the PBY-5/5A/6A and their variants, USAF OA-1OA and Catalinas/Cansos flown by the Allied Air Forces in World War II.  While considered obsolete at the beginning of World War II, PBY Catalina's were used during the war for many duties including anti-submarine warfare, cargo transport, convoy escort, maritime patrol, night fighter and search & rescue missions.  PBY Catalinas continued to serve with the United States Navy after the war until the last example was retired in 1957 while foreign air forces operated them into the 1970s primarily for logistic support for outlying areas and search and rescue duties.  Since the end of World War II, PBY Catalinas have also served in many civilian roles including freight & passenger hauling to remote locations and as airborne water bombers used to fight forest fires.  In addition to an informative introduction and picture captions, "PBY Catalina Walk Around (# 5)" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 69 black and white photographs; 2) About 80 color photographs; 3) 8 black and white illustrations; 4) 2 color illustrations; 5) 11 color side aircraft profile illustrations and 6) 2 color cover paintings.  This book is 80 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is William Scarborough with Don Greer (colorist) and Joe Sewell (illustrations).  Edition published in 1995.
