The P.Z.L. P-23 was developed in Poland to be a long range reconnaissance aircraft and attack bomber used for both day and night missions. The P-23 type A became operational in June, 1936 followed by the type B variant which was placed into service in the fall of 1936. By the spring of 1939, 12 groups of the Polish Air Force were operational. Following the Soviet Union's attack on Poland on September 17, 1939, the 41 surviving P.Z.L. P-23s were transferred to the Romanian Air Force and flew under German control. The P-23 carried a crew of three and possessed the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of almost 190 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of about 800 miles and 3) Service ceiling of almost 24,000 feet. The P-23 carried three 7.92 mm machine guns and could carry just over 1,500 lbs. of bombs. This older, out-of-production P.Z.L. P-23 A et B "Karas" model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for an aircraft operated by the Polish Air Force in 1939; 2) Clear canopy and 3) Illustrated assembly instructions.
