The book, Pictorial History of the RAF - Volume Three 1945 - 1969 represents the third installment in a series of books reviewing the history of the RAF.  The third volume chronicles, through photographs, the history of the RAF from the end of World War II up through the late 1960s.  Soon after the end of World War II, it became apparent that the Allies of the previous war would be the antagonists of what became known as the Cold War.  When Russia blockaded Berlin in 1948, air power saved the day when hundreds of British and American cargo aircraft hauled millions of tons of freight into West Berlin thus sustaining the devastated city until the blockade was eventually lifted.  Once the Korean war exploded onto the international stage in 1950, it appeared that the need to modernize the RAF was finally recognized.  Despite the fact that the RAF was subsequently involved in a number of military conflicts in the 1957 to 1967 timeframe, however, the decisions and indecision by a number of different British governments deprived the RAF of vitally needed modern jet aircraft.  Fortunately, the mighty V-bombers supported by "world-beating" types such as the Hunter fighter helped to sustain the RAF during these lean years.  The last section of this book then concludes with a review of where the RAF stood in terms of aircraft and personnel as they were about to enter the 1970s.  The major sections of this book are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) From Hot War to Cold; 3) Vittles and Plainfare; 4) Firedog sets a New Pattern; 5) Per Ardua and 6) Ad Astra.  In addition to an informative narrative, the "Pictorial History of the RAF - Volume Three 1945 - 1969" includes approximately 261 black and white vintage photographs of the many aircraft types operated by the RAF during the initial postwar years.  This book is 208 pages and is in very good condition.  The authors are John W. R. Taylor and J. R. Moyes.  Edition published in 1970.
