Porsche sports cars are arguably the most beautiful and sought-after vehicles of this type in the world.  The book, Porsche, chronicles the origins and history of the Porsche marquee.  The story of Prosche begins with Ferdinand Porsche a distinguished automobile designer who work ed for Logner, Astro-Daimler, Mercedes and Steyr from 1905 up through the 1930s.  In 1931, Ferdinand Porsche set-up his own design consultancy company in Stuttgart, Germany for the purpose of designing vehicles on his own.  Porsche most lasting legacy from this effort was the design of the 'Type 60' peoples car which would become one of the world's best selling cars, the Volkswagen Beetle.  Porsche's attention during World War II turned to designing military equipment including tanks and scout cars.  The French jailed Ferdinand Porsche following the collapse of Nazi Germany in May, 1945 for several years but eventually released him in from prison in 1947.  Ferdinand and his son Ferry set about rebuilding their broken company in part by developing the 356 sports car unveiled in 1951.  During the 1950s and 1960s the Porsche's designed and built what have become the legendary 911s and 917/30s.  A collaborative effort with Volkswagen then lead to the design and building of the 924 sports car.    Since first designed in 1963, approximately 190,000 of Porsche's flagship 911s have been built.  While the classic styling found in the Porsche 911 sports car has essentially remained unchanged since its initial launch in the 1960s, the engineering of everything under the sheet metal including the engine and interior have continued to keep pace with the latest technological innovations.  Along the way, Porsche has also made many refinements to their sports cars, in part from the feedback received, through their participation in many European car races.  The major sections of this book are as follows: 1) Introduction; 2) Ingenuity For Sale; 3) On The Fuhrer's Orders; 4) A Family Affair; 5) From Little Acorns; 6) Driving In The Finest Form; 7) Success And Sideline; 8) Themes And Variations; 9) From Carrera To Turbo; 10) Towards The Ultimate; 11) The Co-op Car; 12) Porsche Invincible; 13) A New Beginning; 14) The Sensible SuperCar; 15) Appendices and 16) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Porsche" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 106 black and white vintage photographs; 2) About 131 color photographs and 3) 3 color illustrations.  Overall, "Porsche" is highly recommended for all those interested in sports car racing and technology.  This book is 232 pages and is in very good condition.  The author is Anders Ditlev Clausager.  Edition published in 1988.
