The Panzer H Auf Gw II (105 mm) "Wespe" Sd.Kfz.124 was a self-propelled 105 mm artillery vehicle that was used by the German Wehrmacht and SS units during World War II. The "Wespe" or "wasp" was based on the Panzer II light tank. The "Wespe" first saw combat on the Eastern Front in 1943. The 155 mm cannon could be elevated up or down but was mounted laterally into a fixed position that required the movement of the vehicle to shoot left or right of center. This type of mobile artillery lack defensive machineguns so for protection, it was usually operated in concert with infantry forces. The Wespe" stayed in production from early 1943 through mid-1944. By the time production ceased almost 700 units had been manufactured. The "Wespe" could carry a crew of five, had a top speed of 25 mph and had an operational range of just short of 140 miles. This older, out-of-production Pz. H Auf Gw II (105 mm) "Wespe" scaled model was part of Bandai's Pin Point Series of World War II era vehicles. It is highly detailed and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a mobile artillery piece operated by Germany during World War II; 2) Detailed chassis and hull; 3) Detailed engine compartment with opening hood; 4) Detailed main gun; 5) Three crewman molded in green plastic; 6) Two black "link-in-length" soft plastic tracks; 7) Historical vehicle summary; 8) Painting guide and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions.
