The British RE-8 was one of the most widely used two seat aircraft operated over the Western Front during World War I.  The approximately 4,100 manufactured largely served in the reconnaissance role (its originally intended role) although many were used for artillery observation, army co-operation, bombing and ground attack missions.  This R.A.F. RE-8 1918 (Special Edition) scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a RE-8 flown by Lieutenants Armstrong and Mart of No. 3 Squadron, Australian Flying Corps; 2) Detailed engine; 3) Seated pilot and observer crew figures; 4) Separately molded rearward firing machine gun; 5) Simulated fabric covering; 6) Spinning propeller and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  Also included in this "Special Edition" is an attractively presented account of a mission flown by Lieutenants Armstrong and Mart on June 9th, 1918 in which the pair were credited with attacking and bringing down a German Halberstadt fighter over Allied lines in Flesselles.  The box is in like-new condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
