The movie, Red Rviver, captures both the grandeur of the early West and reveals the quality of its people. Red River is based on a Saturday Evening Post short story by Borden Chase and is considered by many to be the best Western film of all time. Red River tells the story of the first large cattle drive over the Chisholm Trail to Abilene, Kansas. This film is packed with authentic detail and photographic realism and has you riding high in the saddle along with the rough and tumble cowboys through dust, heat, rain and all types of other heartships. The central character is Tom Dunson, a self-made cattle baron who is a single-minded, cold-blooded executioner whose sole purpose seems to be to survive and prosper by leading a large cattle drive to Kansas. Matthew, Dunson's adobted son is an up and comer cowboy who is good with with a gun and Groot Nadine is the cowboy's cook who is full of a life's experiences and seems to add the correct amount of dialogue at key points in the movie. In the end, Red River blends hard-hitting action with realistic characters to deliver up what is surely a classic western film. Starring John Wayne, Montgomery Clift and Walter Brennan among others. Full screen in black and white. Released in 1948. Runtime 134 minutes.
