The Ryan PT-20 descended from the civilian Ryan S-T and was used as primary pilot trainer during World War II. The PT-20 had an all-metal fuselage with fabric-covered wings, which utilized a basic wood spar structure and metal ribs. The tail surfaces of the Ryan PT-20 consisted of welded metal frames covered with fabric. The PT-20 was powered by a 125 hp Menasco L-365-1 inline-engine while the STM-S2 variant, which was equipped with Edo floats, had a more powerful 140 hp Menasco inline-engine. The PT-20 had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed 132 mph.; 2) Service ceiling 15,000 feet and 3) Range 350 miles. The STM-S2 variant had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed 122 mph.; 2) Service ceiling 12,250 feet and 3) Range 246 miles. This older, 40 piece Ryan PT-20 Trainer model which is molded in a blue gray color plastic includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a PT-20 operated by the United States Army Air Corps and a STM-S2 floatplane variant operated by the Netherlands Air Force; 2) Choice of pontoon ro wheeled landing gear; 4) One clear plastic wind screen; 5) Simulated fabric covering; 6) Two seated pilot figures; 7) Unique water base for displaying the STM-S2 amphibian variant; 8) Painting guide and 9) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in like-new condition. Never started and factory sealed.
