The SBD Dauntless was an American Naval dive bomber built by the Douglas Aircraft company and used during World War II from late, 1941 though late, 1943.  While it was eventually replaced by the SB2C Helldiver, during the early stages of World War II it was the United State's Navy's primary dive bomber.  During the war it served with the United States Army, Navy and Marine Corps.  Some variants "soldiered on" in a number of foreign air forces well into the 1950s. The SBD Dauntless carried a crew of two and had the following operational characteristics: 1) Top speed of just over 250 m.p.h.; 2) Combat range of almost 800 miles and 3) Service Ceiling of about 25,500 feet.  The Dauntless' armament consisted of two forward firing .50 caliber machine guns, one flexible rear-ward firing .30 caliber machine gun and it could carry almost 2,300 lbs. of bombs.  This older SBD Dauntless model is molded in blue plastic and includes the following features: 1) Aithentic markings for an aircraft flown early in the war by the United States Navy; 2) Clear plastic canopy; 3) Clear plastic display stand; 4) Painting guide; 5) 2 pilot figures; 6) Machine guns; 7) Bombs and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in excellent condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
