The French firm SNECMA produced four experimental Atar Volant VTOL, turbojet powered aircraft during the 1950s.  This aircraft was designed in a similar manner to the American "Pogo" aircraft with the main difference being the fact that the latter aircraft was powered by two conter-rotating three bladed propellers.  The C-450 Coleoptere ('annular wing") was the fourth in an ever evolving Atar Volant VTOL design series and made its maiden flight in 1959.  During a subsequent test flight, several months later, this aircraft crashed seriously injuring the pilot.  With the C-450 variant totally destroyed and the inherent stability problems especially during flight transition not resolved, SNECMA abandoned any future development of this project.  This rare kit of the SNECMA C-450 Coleoptere model is molded in medium gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a C-450 Coleoptere as tested by the French Armee de l'Air; 2) Clear plastic canopy and glass areas; 3) Detailed landing gear with black wheels & tires; 4) Recessed panels with rivet detail and 5) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
