Saving Private Ryan is an award winning film which forces the viewer to take a brutal look at the devestation that war leaves behind both physically and emotionally.  Filmed in part on beaches in Ireland that closely resemble Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, the story chronicles the journey of an American GI Squad who are ordered on a dangerous mission behind enemy lines to rescue a Private Ryan.  This mission is deemed necessary at the Pentagon because the mother of Private Ryan is grieving over the recent loss of 3 of his brothers while fighting in Europe and the Pacific Theaters of World War II.  Private Ryan can not be allowed to be the fourth son lost in battle.  Many vivid action scenes.  Winner of five Adamy Awards.  Note: copy missing outer jacket.  Starring Tom Hanks, Matt Damon, Edward Burns and Vin Diesel among others.  Widescreen in Color.  Released in 1998.  Runtime 169 minutes.
