The book, Seventh Air Force Story, chronicles the history of the Seventh Air Force highlighting the aircraft used, the units formed and the bombing missions flown by this American air force during World War II. The Seventh Air Force was established on October 19, 1940 as the "Hawaiian Air Force" at Fort Shafter, Territory of Hawaii. During World War II, the Seventh Air Force provided air defense of the Hawaiian Islands and took part in combat operations primarily in the Central Pacific region. The Seventh Air Force engaged Imperial Japanese forces over the following islands: 1) Gilbert Islands; 2) Marshall Islands; 3) Caroline Islands; 4) Mariana Islands and 5) Okinawa & surrounding islands. Despite flying many long-range missions to these enemy held islands, the Seventh Air Force employed a relatively small number of aircraft. That said, while the Seventh Air Force was equipped with a wide variety of aircraft types; it formed only a handful of operational groups. Despite possessing only a limited number of aircraft and personnel, the Seventh Air Force nevertheless was credited with landing a series of successful blows against the enemy throughout the Central Pacific during World War II. Once hostilities ended, the Seventh Air Force returned to its defensive role in the Territory of Hawaii. The major sections of the "Seventh Air Force Story" are as follows: 1) Seventh Air Force History; 2) Map Of Pacific Theater; 3) Seventh Air Force Markings (Fighter, Bomber & Other Units) and 4) Seventh Air Force Aces.
