The P-80 Shooting Star, later designated the F-80 was the first operational jet fighter used by the then United States Army Air Forces.  It saw extensive combat during the Korean War and a two seat variant of the jet fighter went on to become the T-33 Advanced Jet Trainer.  After the United States Air Force was officially designated as its own branch of service the P for pursuit was changed to F for fighter and the F-80 designation was adopted.  In all, just over 1,700 units of all variants were produced before production was halted for more modern jet fighters like North American's F-86 Sabre.  The operational characteristics of this famous fighter are as follows: 1) Top speed of 600 mph; 2) Combat range of 1,200 miles and 3) Service Ceiling of 46,000 feet.  The F-80's armament consisted of six .50 caliber machine guns and provisions to carry two 1,000 lb bombs and eight unguided rockets.  This older Shooting Star F-80 USAF Jet scaled model is from quality Airfix molds and is from MPC’s “Air Combat Collection”.  It includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for an F-80 as flown by the United States Air Force; 2) Basic cockpit; 3) Clear one piece plastic canopy; 4) Detailed landing gear; 5) Ground crewmen figures; 6) Pilot figure 7) Recessed panel lines; 8) Tip tanks; 9) Painting guide and 10) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in Like-New condition.  Never started and factory sealed.
