In May, 1915 with World War I raging around the world, the RMS Lusitania, a British passenger ship carrying nearly 2,000 people en route from New York to England was sunk by a German U-boat. The incicent spurred many U.S. citizens to both join the American armed forces and to also push for war with Germany. While Germany quickly apologized and ordered a tempory halt to unresticted submarine warfare, they eventually resumed these activities and after subsequent ship sinkings where U.S. citizens lost their lives, President Woodrow Wilson asked the U.S. Congress for a declaration of war against Germany in the Spring of 1917. The History Channel program offers an in-depth look at the Lusitania's historic final voyage. Widescreen in color. Released in 2007. Runtime 84 minutes.
