The book, Skyraider: The Douglas A-1 "Flying Dump Truck" represents a comprehensive pictorial study of the legendary Douglas single-engine, single seat fighter bomber that was designed by Ed Heinemann and introduced into United States Army Air Force squadrons in 1946.  While the A-1 Skyraider arrived to late to be used in World War II, it went on to a storied career and was flown to good effect in both the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War.  The Skyraider always seemed to be in the thick of things flying dangerous, low level combat sorties over enemy positions.  In addition, the A-1 Skyraider was often called in to protect downed American pilots until a rescue helicopter could be flown in to extract them from the battlefield.  The Douglas A-1 Skyraider was given many nicknames including the "Spad" and "Flying Dumptruck".  The Latter name arouse due to the A-1 Skyraider's ability to carry heavy ordnance loads of up to 8,000 pounds in addition to carrying four 20 mm cannon.  The A-1 Skyraider had the following operational characteristics; 1) Top speed of about 320 mph; 2) Range of about 1,300 miles and 3) Service ceiling of just under 29,000 feet.  The A-1 Skyraider was retired from frontline service in the early 1970s and was eventually replaced by the straight-wing jet powered Republic Aviation A-10 Thunderbolt II.  The major sections of 'Skyraider: The Douglas A-1 "Flying Dump Truck" are as follows: 1) Preface; 2) Introduction by Ed Heinemann; 3) Acknowledgements; 4) Abbreviations; 5) Chapter One - Start Of A Saga; 6) Chapter Two - Interdiction; 7) Chapter Three - Night Shift; 8) Chapter Four - Armor Plate And Other Things; 9) Chapter Five - A Nebraskan In Asia; 10) Chapter Six - Skyraiders And Farewell; 11) Chapter Seven - Down The Tube; 12) Chapter Eight - Sea Stories And Farewell; 13) Appendix A - Summary Of British, French, And Swedish Use Of The Skyraider; 14) Appendix B - Skyraider Performance Data; 15) Appendix C - Bibliography and 16) Index.  In addition to an informative narrative, "Skyraider: The Douglas A-1 "Flying Dump Truck"" includes the following features: 1) Approximately 140 black and white photographs; 2) About 5 black and white illustrations and 3) 1 A-1E Skyraider cut-away black and white illustration high-lighting this aircraft's maintenance areas.  This book is 239 pages and is in excellent condition.  The author is Rosario Ransa.  Edition published in 1982.
