The Sopwith Camel was a World War I era British single-seat, radial engine, bi-plane fighter first introduced over the Western Front in June 1917.  The Camel was manufactured by the Sopwith Aviation Company in England and was flown primarily by the Royal Flying Corps.  The Sopwith Camel was a capable aircraft but a chore to fly given its short-coupled fuselage and the fact that most of the aircraft's weight was located in the front portion of the fuselage.  In experienced hands, the Sopwith Camel, armed with two .303 caliber Vickers synchronized machine guns, was credited with shooting down almost 1,300 enemy aircraft by the time the war ended in November, 1918.  The Sopwith Camel could mount multiple different radial engines ranging in horsepower from 130 to 150.  The general operational characteristics of the Sopwith Camel are as follows: 1) Top speed of about 115 mph; 2) Range up to 300 miles and 3) Service ceiling of approximately 21,000 feet.  This older, out-of-production Sopwith Camel scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Sopwith Camel flown by the Royal Flying Corps; 2) Beautiful box art; 3) Clear plastic display base; 4) Molded in light orange colored plastic; 5) Seated pilot figure; 6) Simulated fabric covering and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in good condition but does have a tape tear on the top, side of the box.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
