The book, Speed! Indy Car Racing, represents a comprehensive pictorial review of Indy car racing.  This book portrays the world of high-speed championship racing intimately and in an exciting format.  The reader will see the elegance of a pit crew in action, as well as, what the driver sees from the cockpit of his car.  The narrative is told through many interviews of the men who have been there, who have designed the "Indy-style racers, tested them, wrecked them and won with them".  The author captures the full range of this dramatic and story through the use of some fairly elaborate and sophisticated filming technology.  Along the way, the author has set-up cameras in wind tunnels, made stop-action shots of qualifying runs at over 200 m.p.h. and been splashed with champagne in the winner's circle.  Using more than $100,000 worth of camera equipment including a high speed, color-streak apparatus, a remote-controlled, motorized "Widelux" along with other high-tech equipment allows for photographs never before captured on film.  For example, the use of this equipment has allowed the author to create a spectacular 360-degree panorama of the racetrack as it would appear in the driver's seat.  The major sections of "Speed! Indy Car Racing" are as follows: 1) Preface; 2) Introduction by Paul Newman; 3) A Photographer's Notebook by Chet Jezierski; 4) Birth - Designing, Building, Testing; 5) Rituals - Preparations, Practice Runs, Qualifying and 6) The Chase - Spectacle, Racing, Winning.  In edition to a fascinating narrative and generous quotations from hundreds of hours of interviews with the world's leading drivers, mechanics and designers, this book includes the following features: 1) Approximately 45 black and white photographs; 2) About 226 color photographs and 3) 17 black and white illustrations.  This book is 176 pages and is in excellent condition.  The project director was Robert Morton with Chet Jezierski (interviews and photographs) and Paul Newman (introduction).  Edition published in 1985.
