The legendary Spitfire became the most revered aircraft in Great Britain, and was a major contributor in the winning of the Battle Of Britain during World War II.  It was the only British fighter aircraft of the time able to combat the German Me 109 on equal terms.  The Mark Vb Spitfire was the most widely produced version and was armed with two 20 mm cannons and four 7.7 mm machine guns carried within its wide cord wings.  It entered service in March, 1941 but within two years it was outclassed as a medium-altitude fighter.  Most surviving examples were subsequently converted to low level fighters with the designation LF. V..  The Mk. V was the basis for a number of long range Spitfire derivatives, as well as, the Seafire produced for the Royal Navy.  The Spitfire Vb which is the subject of this kit is one of the true aircraft classics of all times, with its slim fuselage and beautiful eliptical wings.  This 105 piece Spitfire Mk.
