The Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. D anti tank and assault gun was produced during World War II for the German Army and Waffen SS.  It was built on the proven chassis of the Panzer III tank and was intended initially to be an armored light assault gun for infantry support.  Over time, it evolved into a very effective anti tank gun and was used in that capacity throughout the rest of World War II.  The Sturmgeschutz III carried a crew of four.  Production began in 1940 and by the time it ended at the close of World War II approximately 9,400 units of all variants were produced. An estimated 150 of the Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. D variant, which is the subject of this model, were produced in 1941.  The Sturmgeschutz III, which was armed with a 7.5 cm StuK 40 cannon, had the following operational characteristics: 1) Weighed about 24 tons; 2) Top speed of 25 m.p.h. and 3) Combat range of just under 100 miles.  This older, out-of-production Sturmgeschutz III Ausf. D - Anti Tank Gun model, which is molded in dark gray plastic and is part of Bandai's "Pin Point Series" of armored fighting vehicles, includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a tank operated by the German Army and Waffen SS during World War II; 2) Detailed chassis and hull; 3) Detailed engine; 4) Opening engine compartment hood; 5) Three soldiers molded in green plastic; 6) Two black vinyl tracks and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in very good overall condition but does have a piece of tape on one corner of the package.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
