The Su-2 was a Soviet Union two-man, single engine scout and light bomber designed by P. Sukhoi and A. Tupolev in 1936. The prototype made its first flight in August of the following year and soon went into series production. After the German attack on the Soviet Union in June 1941, the Su-2 saw combat as a short-range assault and light bomber aircraft. If the circumstances warranted it, the Su-2 could be employed as a fighter and as an artillery spotter observation aircraft. The R variant was equipped with photo camera AFA 13 and used as a photoreconnaissance aircraft as well. The operational characteristics of the Su-2 are as follows: 1) Top speed of about 300 mph; 2) Range of almost 700 miles and 3) Service ceiling of almost 28,000 feet. The Su-2 carried six 7.62 mm machines with four fixed in the wings and one in a upper turret and one in a hatch in the floor along with an effective bomb load of just under 900 pounds. This new 68 piece Su-2 WWII Soviet Light Bomber scaled model includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Su-2 as flown during World War II by the 67th Special Corps Squadron, Brovary, June 1941; 2) Clear plastic canopy and rear turret; 3) Detailed cockpit; 4) Detailed landing gear; 5) Four bombs; 6) Recessed panel lines; 7) Painting guide in color and 8) Illustrated assembly instructions. The box is in new condition. Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
