The Supermarine Mk. XIV was the first series production Griffon engined Spitfire.  The Griffon engine gave this variant of the famed Spitfire a top speed of just under 440 m.p.h. at altitude which was sufficient to allow it to catch and destroy the rocket powered V-1 "Buzz-Bombs" being launched in the fall, 1944 towards England.  The Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIV was used by the second tactical air force in Europe and in the Far East by the Royal Air Force from 1944 to 1945.  This variant of the Spitfire continued to see service until the last example was retired in 1955.  This older Supermarine Spitfire Mk. XIV model is molded in light gray plastic and includes the following features: 1) Authentic markings for a Spitfire operated by the Royal Air Force and the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II; 2) Clear two piece plastic canopy; 3) Detailed landing gear; 4) Five bladed propeller; 5) Recessed panel lines; 6) Paint guide and 7) Illustrated assembly instructions.  The box is in like-new condition.  Never started and 100% complete with all parts, decals and instructions inventoried.
