The United States Air Force Museum is the oldest and largest museum in the world.  Beginning in 1923 at McCook Field near downtown Dayton, Ohio, it was moved to Wright Field in 1927.  The first purpose built museum building was constructed in 1935 under the Works Progress Administration and the aircraft collection was renamed the Army Aeronautical Museum.  Although the museum was closed during World War II, it was reopened after the war and the general public was permitted access to the facility beginning in 1954.  In 1956, it officially became the Air Force Museum.  Through the efforts of the U.S. Air Force Museum Foundation, the museum was moved to its current location in 1971.  Since that time additional buildings have been constructed and a separate annex added so that most of the museum's aircraft, missiles, space capsules and other exhibits are now housed inside.  The museum presents the history of the United States Air Force and predecessor organizations by exhibiting them in a chronological manner and associates many artifacts with celebrated events, important eras, notable achievements and technological developments.  The book, The Air Force Museum (Fifth Revised Edition) represents a pictorial review of the "world's greatest air museum of airplanes, missiles and aviation  exhibits from the Wright Brothers" through the mid 1980s.  This book includes the following sections: 1) The Birth Of The Air Force Museum; 2) Early Aviation History; 3) World War I; 4) Era Between World War I And World War II; 5) World War II; 6) The Jet Age; 7) Missiles And Space; 8) Special Exhibits; 9) Behind The Scenes; 10) Apendix Including Status Prefix Symbols And Museum Inventory and 11) Index.  Included in this book are over 500 black and white vintage photographs and other illustrations that tell the evolving story of aviation through the twentieth century.   This book is sure to be of interest to any "armchair" aviation enthusiast or history buff.  This book is 216 pages and is in excellent condition.  The authors are Nick P. Apple and Gene Gurney with Lt. General Ira C Eaker (foreword).  Edition published in 1986.
