The film, The Alaska Highway (1942 -1992), tells the remarkable story of how an almost 1,500 mile road was built across the wilderness of British Columbia, and the Yukon Territory in Canada and then into Alaska.  The project began with the completion of a wilderness trail that only took eight months to build in 1942.  Within two years a year-around roadway called the Alcan Highway was completed through some of the most beautiful yet forbidding terrain in North American.  Building this highway ultimately employed almost 35,000 American and Canadian military and civilian workers.  This interesting film is narrated by Hoyt Axton and covers the construction and later history of the roadway through the use of archival film and photographs.  The viewer will see some interesting film footage of a daring 1939 motorcycle trip on one of the initially proposed routes, attend the opening ceremonies at Soldier's Summit in November, 1942 and take a modern trip on this same highway fifty years after its completion.  Narrated by Hoyt Axton.  Full screen in black and white & color.  Released in 1994.  Runtime 58 minutes.
