The book, The Battle Of Britain, tells the story of those weeks when Briatin stood alone against Nazi Germany and the fate of the "free world" hung in the balance.  Europe lay under the German Swastikas with Russia and the United States seeming to ignore the threat.  Only the tireless herosim of the British Fighter Command pilots, the precarious superiority of their Spitfires and Hurricanes and ultimately the morale of their country behind them allowed the British to hold off the determined efforts of the German Luftwaffe to bring them to their knees.  The Battle of Britain lasted from August 13th until the German Luftwaffe was largely redeployed to Eastern Europe in anticipation of their invasion of Russia in June, 1941.  While the worst of the German attack was experienced in 1940, the German's eventually turned to night-time bombing of England's industrial cities which gave the British Royal Air Force time to mend and live to fight another day.  This book includes the following chapters: 1) The Few; 2) Air Power 1939; 3) Victors and Vanquished in the Battle of France; 4) Luftwaffe: The Flawed Weapon; 5) Royal Air Force: Battle Against Time; 6) The Battle; 7) The Aces; 8) Radar: the Secret War and 9) One Man's Blitz.  In addition to the narrative, this book includes the following: 1) Many black and white vintage photographs; 2) Rare color wartime photographs; 3) Color aircraft cutaway drawings of the major aircraft flown by Germany and England during this battle; 4) Numerous color aircraft side profiles and 5) Maps and other illustrations as appropriate.  This book is in good condition.  The editors are Bernard Fitzsimons and Christy Campbell with John Batchelor (illustrations).  Edition published in 1974.
