The film, The Battle Of Midway is a documentary that was shot during the heat of the actual battle by legendary movie director John Ford.  Of note, is the fact that John Ford was injured and two of the three cameras being used were destroyed during filming.  The Battle of Midway Island in early June 1942 was one of the most intense, bloody battles fought between the United States and Japan during World War II.  When the battle was over, the invading Japanese were repulsed having lost four of their large aircraft carriers, numerous other naval ships and countless pilots and aircraft in the process.  Most historians feel that the Japanese had reached their "high-water" mark in terms of a string of uninterrupted victories leading up to the Battle of Midway.  While there would be three long years of fighting and hundreds of thousands of additional American deaths before World War II came to an end, the initiative shifted to the Allies after the Battle of Midway had ended.  As a "Special Bonus Feature", this video includes a feature titled "Fury In The Pacific", which documents with film, crucial moments in World War II history.  This second feature documents first-hand, eyewitness accounts about the Pacific Ocean combat theater during the wars most explosvie years.  Battle of Midway Director: John Ford.  Full screen in black & white and color.  Released in 1988.  Runtime 40 minutes.
